Why Magento developers take simple things in your online store so long

In some cases you can face this situation. It is OK if you didn’t face. And this situation would be interesting for you.

You need to simple thing, for example to move button to right. And developer wasted whole day. Why?

The online store creating, or migration to Magento 2, the implementation of new theme or design are difficult things. They are time-consuming and can absorb many resourses quickly. In these cases you can’t see problem.

But often you need some simple things. These minor changes in online store which don’t give more profit (may be a little bit). But middle Magento developer will spend 8, 16 or more working hours this can be expensive.

What a problem?

I should like to make notification. I won’t tell about the worst cases as a bad developers or newby. Unfortunatly it happens all the time. Although there is one and the same a source of the problem.

Who made this site? Who made this customization on the page? And how it have been  implemented?

Many developers are doing odd jobs for many online store in wrong way. Spahgetti code, the worst solutions which need time to understand it. Who make frontend style guide? Some developers don’t use styles.

When experienced Magento developer see it, he will take the time to understand how it works. Then he need to find solution, to implement it and to test it. Probably he will get many bugs there. And developer need to spend time again and again. You will be frustrated and upset.

How can you avoid this situation?

1. Originally you need to hire experienced developer. Better for you to recruit a team. If you save money on the first stage you will spend money later.

2. Did you save money? Ok. If your developer face problem, he must say you about problem on online store. It is about project communication. Even if you weren’t undestand problem you must hear the developer.

Developer must give you plan (tasks with detailed description and estimated time). If you agree, developer will give you daily report. If you disagree, developer need to propose other solution of problem.

The solution depends on you. The wrong way don’t fix and try to implement something on e-shop. The better way will do it is right. Fix problem and implement simple thing on the page. Because, after time, you will need next simple thing to implement.

Or, you can keep it that way and abandon the improvement and minor changes.
